DNA testing of crash victims' bodies under way
29/07/2010ISLAMABAD – The government is conducting DNA tests of charred body parts to identify the victims of the July 28 plane crash in Islamabad.
The government has handed over the remains of 66 of 152 victims to their survivors as heavy rains at the hilly, wooded crash scene hampered recovery operations.
The authorities have been fingerprinting victims and already had taken 40 DNA samples by July 29, Interior Minister Rehman Malik told media. Officials said it will take one week to complete DNA tests, Dawn reported.
The Civil Aviation Authority is investigating the crash. Malik promised the inquiry will be transparent and its report will be released within two weeks, media reported.
