World Bank to fund Rogun impact study
DUSHANBE – The World Bank (WB) will allocate funds for a study of the technological and environmental risks posed by Tajikistan’s Rogun hydropower plant project, CA-news.org reports March 11.
WB Central Asia regional director Motoo Konishi announced the decision after meeting with Tajik President Emomali Rakhmon in Dushanbe March 10.
Tajikistan envisions stabilising its energy supply and increasing its exports of electricity, but Uzbekistan has raised concerns about the environment and its own water supply.
Uzbekistan had previously called for an independent impact study.
