TASHKENT – Uzbekistan's main TV channel broadcast in late May a documentary on the assassinations of a religious figure and an Interior Ministry official in the summer of 2009, Ferghana.ru reported July 28.

The documentary aired without any announcement beforehand, Ferghana.ru reported.

On July 16, 2009, Abror Abrorov, the deputy director of a madrassa, was stabbed to death. On July 31, 2009, Anvar-qori Tursunov, an imam, survived a knife attack. On August 9, Khasan Asadov, an Interior Ministry anti-terrorism official, was shot to death in his apartment.

The documentary accuses Shavkat Mahmudov – killed in a September Tashkent shootout with police – and Swedish-based Uzbek-born cleric Obidhon Nazarov of plotting terrorist attacks in Uzbekistan. The documentary implies that Kazakhstani intelligence helped Nazarov – sought by Uzbek police – escape from Kazakhstan to Sweden in 2005, Ferghana.ru reported.
