ASHGABAT, Oct. 15—Turkmenistan has released an audit of deposits of natural gas in the South Yolotan-Osman and Yashlar gas fields in the Amu Darya basin in eastern Turkmenistan. The audit reveals that the basin huge field reserves.

Turkmen authorities commissioned the UK-based international consulting firm Gaffney, Cline and Associates (GCA) to perform the audit.

GCA manager, Jim Gillett said, “Our task was to carry out an independent audit of gas reserves in the east of the country in accordance with the international estimation and classification system. ... According to current data based on our company’s assessment of the South Yolotan-Osman deposits, the low estimate of reserves is 4 trillion cubic metres of gas, the optimal estimate is 6 trillion and the high estimate is 8 trillion ... By way of comparison, the optimal estimate is five times greater than that of the reserves at Dovletabad, until now considered the country’s largest field, which makes South Yolotan-Osman the fourth or fifth largest gas field in the world.”

This authoritative and independent international estimate of the enormous volume of gas reserves in Turkmenistan provides assurance that the country has more than enough to meet its contractual obligations and justifies the investments made in existing and planned pipelines to export gas to global markets.
