Former chairman of Kazakh Committee on Water Resources sentenced to four years

ASTANA -- The former chairman of Kazakhstan’s Committee on Water Resources of the Ministry of Agriculture, Anatoly Ryabtsev, was sentenced December 21 to four years in a regime penal colony, Kazakh media reported.
According to KazakhstanToday, Ryabtsev was convicted on corruption charges for attempting to bribe a state official with 16.9 million tenge (US $113,000).
Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty reports that Ryabtsev was arrested by financial police in March of this year. He only admitted partial guilt, RFE/RL reported.
