By Rukhshona Ibragimova
DUSHANBE – Tajik security forces killed five militants and arrested another in connection with the ambush of a Defence Ministry convoy in the Rasht Valley September 19, Tajik State TV reported September 22.
The broadcast did not disclose the names of the dead and captured suspects but described them as supporters of former United Tajik Opposition commanders Mirzokhudzha Akhmadov, Mullo Abdullo and Alovuddin Davlatov.
Special forces have not located Akhmadov, but they know he sheltered Mullo Abdullo in his house and organised a terrorist camp in the Rasht Valley, the programme added. Special forces searched Akhmadov’s house and said they found six AK-47’s, three rocket-propelled grenade launchers, ten landmines, 6,000 rounds of ammunition and three bombs containing 20kg of TNT each.
Three residents of Rasht District kishlaks near the Kambora gorge contacted Central Asia Online September 22, saying they had been hearing gunfire and explosions throughout the day and evening.
Twenty-five Tajik army soldiers died in Sunday’s ambush.
