Turkmen-Chinese pipeline construction begins

ASHGABAT – Work has begun in China on a pipeline to transport Turkmen gas to energy-starved Hong Kong, Birzhevoy Lider reported March 3, quoting the People’s Daily (China).
The 29km undersea pipeline will carry gas between Shenzhen, China, and Hong Kong, Birzhevoy Lider reported.
Turkmenistan is expected to ship up to 65 billion cu. m of gas to China yearly by 2015, Birzhevoy Lider reported. The country began supplying gas to southern China in November, with deliveries to Hong Kong expected to start by the end of 2012.
Meanwhile, the Turkmen Foreign Ministry March 5 hosted a Chinese delegation headed by Communist Party International Department official Jiang Naichen, Turkmenistan.ru reported. They discussed political, economic and global energy security issues.
