LHC issues notice to Zardari
Staff Report
2012-06-23
LAHORE – The Lahore High Court (LHC) June 22 issued a notice to President Asif Ali Zardari, asking him to explain why he did not implement the court’s orders for suspending his political activities while holding the office of president, media reported.
LHC Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial sent the notice and requested a reply within a week. A larger bench will be formed to hear this case.
In May 2011, the LHC’s full bench ruled that Zardari should dissociate himself from political activities and surrender the position of Pakistan Peoples Party’s co-chairman.
A petition filed in the LHC said Zardari ignored the court’s directions and continued his political activities as president.
