Staff Report

ASHGABAT – Turkmenistan is vowing to improve its agricultural water management, the UNDP said in a June 28 statement.
The government plans to comprehensively address the availability of water for more than 30,000 farmers in a joint UNDP-Ministry of Nature Protection project in three farming regions vulnerable to water shortages – Yerbent District (Karakum desert), Nohur District (mountain region) and Sakarchaga District (Mary Oblast oasis).
The project will “assess and deliver concrete water adaptation measures” and “is expected to support strengthening the national water legislation and pricing to ensure water availability for the non-state sector farmers,” the statement said. The project was launched May 22.
