SHYMKENT – An exhibit of disabled artists’ work opened July 18 at the South Kazakhstan Oblast Youth Centre.
The Art Life exhibit shows the works of recognised artists and the self-taught.
“The main idea in organising the gallery was to form a creative public square uniting those with limitations, enabling them to develop their abilities, and to discover new talents,” said Ravil Abdulov, director of Art Life.
“The name of the exhibition – Art Life – is no accident,” said Vadim Toropov, director of the city’s society for the disabled. “For many artists, the ability to paint has become a unique window onto the world, a means of actively living and creating.”
Admission to the 10-day exhibit is free. Organisers plan to take the exhibit to several other Kazakhstani cities.
