DUSHANBE – The Tajik State National Security Committee (GKNB) reported the recent detention of a Drug Control Agency officer on suspicion of trying to smuggle rubies, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL)’s Tajik service reported November 9.
GKNB agents detained Oshurmamad Oshurmamadov in a Khorog city park November 5, CA-News.org reported.
Speaking on a November 9 local TV broadcast, Oshurmamadov said he obtained two rubies from someone identified only as Todzhiboyev, an officer in the elite National Guard, and tried to sell them because he needed the money.
The GKNB agents detained Oshurmamadov when he was trying to sell the rubies. Todzhiboyev’s fate was not reported.
