ASHGABAT – Most Turkmen women recently received 40 TMT (US $14) in honour of International Women's Day (March 8), the Yashlyk TV channel reported March 6.
The cash gift came from President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov's office. Homemakers, prison inmates, outdoor market traders and farm workers, though, will not receive the money, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty's Turkmen service reported March 7.
Berdymukhamedov's office has issued the money to the nation's women in past years.
Meanwhile, in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, the mayor's office March 6 gave each of the capital's 2,131 female courtyard sweepers 500 TJS (US $104) as a gesture of appreciation, CA-News.org reported March 7. In Tajikistan, March 8 is Mother's Day. The mayor's office also cited the coming Novruz holiday.
